Microsoft XP - JPEG vulnerability
I don't usually annouce all these little technical goodies that I find out about, but I just heard about one of the most pervasive bug yet in Microsoft software. I've always said that it's impossible to get a computer virus from looking at a picture (i.e., a file that ends in JPG or JPEG.) Guess what? I was wrong. Fortunately, the virus is easy to identify and your virus scanning software will be able to find any occurance (once you update your virus signatures, which I'm sure you do - right?) In addition, you'll need to download and apply the fixes from Microsoft.

Miss Camp America 2004
The Miss Camp America Foundation held their annual pageant. It wasn't much to speak of, because we couldn't raise enough money to pay for the usual theater. However, our pageant directors (whom we elected) refused to scale back the show to match the budget - so rather than have a smaller pageant, they recommended we not do anything. Kind of sad, in my opinion. Eventually, others in the organization put together a small show at a local bar - we did two production numbers, which were choreographed by Stephanie. Steve and I had a good time, and we were done by 10:30 (rather than the usual midnight).

Google Art
People are creating entries that Google will eventually search/index that look like this.
And then, if you Google to search for a sequence of characters (such as "aa ae ao ea ee eo BART" works for the sample above) and click on the link, you get "Goggle Art" (here's the link already clicked...).

Misfits lockdown party
Once again we went to the Misfits of Houston's Lockdown party. As usual, they had a great event in a great space. Now, if only we could get the community to overcome their conservatism, it might be an incredible party.

Southern Decadence
Well, after saying we weren't going to go to New Orleans this year for Southern Decadence (net) or (com) - we changed our mind and we're heading over. However, our expectations are extremely low about what the streets are going to be like. So, instead of staying at an inexpensive hotel with a "mixed" clientele, we're going to be staying in the heart of the hubbub at the St. Pierre. Our friends Jack and Dennis stay there and have a party on Saturday afternoon that we went to last year for the first time. It turned out to be the highlight of the trip.
Now, about that hurricane...

Olympics are over
Steve and I watched a ton of Olympics on TV this year. Thank goodness for TiVo. I'd record eight hours of stuff over night and during the day, and then watch TV for about 4 hours in the evening to see the 12 hours I'd recorded. Click on the "More..." below for all sorts of other thoughts about the Olympics.
