Feeding Tubes and Republicans

I can't help it: I'm forced to politicize
Terry Schiavo. The
Miami Hearld reports that the Florida Medicaid program (which I assume is headed by Republicans, since it's a Republican state) is cutting off funding for people with feeding tubes, which, as I understand it, leads to death. Terry Schaivo, on the other hand was on a feeding tube, but the Republicans insisted that she be kept alive in her persistent vegatative state until she died of something "natural". I guess, the easiest solution for Michael Schaivo would have been just to move his wife to Medicaid and the State of Florida would have then insisted on removing her food. I feel icky just thinking about this.

Example of Republican Suppression of Contradictory Ideas

An interesting experience: a friend of a friend has a Blog that I consider to be the "stereotypical Republican". However, his Blog is interesting to read at times. I've left positive comments in the past on certain views, but I had never left any sort of contradictory position. Recently, he posted a "humorous parable" that I considered to be extremely uninformed and perpetuating of "Republican myths": in this case, the story implied that all people on welfare are cheaters. Since I know that is not the case, I thought I'd leave two "Democrat myths" as examples of how this sort of political thinking is not productive.
The interesting part? He deleted my comments (
here is a copy of the posting before he deleted the comments. Yep - he runs a right-wing blog, but refuses to allow any comments that don't conform to his political views. I am sure that there are an equal number of parochial "liberals": the difference is that Republicans are claiming to take the "morally correct, American view" - but at the same time they censor any contradictory arguments. Of course, I know that it is a personal Blog and you can delete any comments you want - but I'm just wondering if anyone would really want to associate with a person who has that attitude?

Freedom of Information Act

The
People for the American Way has a nice little web site that prints out a form letter that you can send to the FBI to request "your file". Since I've been known to do things that are certainly "Un-American" (as defined by the current Republican Administration) such as protesting the
war in Iraq, protesting anti-gay meetings, having sex, going to the
Al-Jazeera web site, learning Arabic, checking books out of the library that deal with evolution, donating money to liberals, etc, I thought I'd better check to see what the
FBI knows about me.
